Till people start travelling around the world and visit the most beautiful places on the world. Maybe one of these places is a little island with crystal clear water and a dive shop. They become curious and do their first dive and before they know it thy are addicted to diving, the life style, the underwater water nature, and more… Like the Gili Islands, beautiful Islands with no cars, no motorbikes, and you don’t have to wear shoes….

Gili Islands perfect place for your IDC, PADI Instructor Course

Gili Islands perfect place for your IDC, PADI Instructor Course

Before they know it they become divemaster, but as a divemaster you don’t earn that amount of money for a real life. So they have a few option back home, back for study or maybe to become a dive instructor.

Do become dive instructor you should have:

The PADI instructor course or IDC or PADI Instructor Development Course takes at Oceans 5 dive resort 10 days. After the IDC there will be a 3 days PADI Instructor Examination. Someone from PADI comes to us to check if you know what PADI Course Director Camille Lemmens and PADI Course Director Sander Buis taught you in the last 10 days. There will be nothing new, everything should be clear from the beginning.

If you passed your IE and you are EFR instructor you will be within 10 day an in active status PADI Instructor. Ready to teach Open Water Diver Courses, Advanced Open Water Courses, Rescue Diver Course, Divemaster Courses and 3 specialty courses, Project Aware, Corral reef conservation and Peak Performance Buoyancy.

But in these 10 days you are not allowed to teach, so what to do?

Oceans 5 dive resort offers Master Scuba Diver Trainer preparation courses. You can get 5 instructor specialties rating for ONLY Euro 200 extra. And it doesn’t matter which ones you choose, only for sidemount instructor there are extra additional costs. You have more teaching opportunities and you become more valuable for the dive shop for you are starting working.

If you like to start working as a dive instructor in Indonesia be aware that a dive instructor should have a working permit (KITAS). KITAS is a long staying permit but most people call KITAS a working permit but that is not totally true. A KITAS is related to the company you are working for, and has a job description. It is impossible to start working for more companies, or doing suddenly different things than your job description describes.

Another option is starting to assist courses with experienced instructor after your PADI IDC. You learn how to conduct a course, organizing, and to work with real students. Oceans 5 dive resort offers this to all IDC candidates. Everyone is welcome to staff after their IDC/IE.

Maybe a few more will arrive and join the life changing experience with the IDC Gili Islands.
Today there will be a skill circuit and rescue practice in the pool with all DMTs of Oceans 5 and all the IDC who wants to join. PADI Course Director Sander Buis will explain first how he like to see the skill demonstration.

Skill demonstration are like watching TV, do you like short boring tv advertisements between a really good movie? No one like time and zip them away, coz the are boring. A demonstration is like a story you as instructor has a story to tell how a skill works to people who never didn’t before.

If you demonstrate it like a short tv ad, no one understands it, the students don’t do the right thing, you get frustrated, and they don’t like the course.

It like you are the story teller and you are the main character of the movie, you show the students the tools, the techniques that they need to do the skill in a simple but not to simple way. It has to be slow, entertaining, just to the point, and safe, How better you can show the point of interest how better they understand the skill.

I can give you a map of Gili Air and don’t explain anything or I can be very excited about it and show you all the beautiful places you have to go to, or have to do. Do you see the differences?

Another point that instructor have to learn is that we are not showing students how good we are. We all have an ego and we are thinking we are the best divers in the world, but does that ego makes other people better divers? No way! We are educators and has to become flexible to adapt us to all kind of different circumstances. Step out of your box, and maybe there is another way to do something.

After the Skills Circuit there will be a practice of Rescue exercise number 7, we all have done it during our rescue course, during our divemaster course so hopefully everyone will know how it will work.

So long day in the pool, don’t worry we will have some fun!

DDI Instructor Course http://www.oceans5dive.com/blog/ddi-instructor-course/ http://www.oceans5dive.com/blog/ddi-instructor-course/#comments Thu, 17 Oct 2013 01:37:24 +0000 http://www.oceans5dive.com/blog/?p=2035 Continue reading ]]> Dive resort Oceans 5 is partially adjusted for disabled divers. But to give these divers more comfort Oceans 5 owner, Sander Buis, is doing now a cross-over to DDI instructor at Crystal Divers Bali with Flemming Thyge, Vice President and Founder of DDI.

DDI stands for Disabled Divers International
Disabled Divers International (DDI) is a non-profit organization, with the aim to promote, develop and conduct disabled scuba diving training programs for professional and non-professional students. Since its introduction in 2010, DDI has gathered extensive support and recognition within the diving industry and conducted both professional and non-professional programs all around the world. All board members are volunteers, dedicated to promoting and developing disabled scuba diving internationally.

DDI programs are designed to work in cooperation with existing scuba diving training organizations and their training programs. DDI programs adds a new layer on top of the existing diver training, allowing individuals who would have difficulties fulfilling all requirements and standards to experience diving safely with modifications and enhancements to their training and or equipment.

DDI professional training adds to the diving professional a new set of tools and knowledge to train disabled divers safely and certify their students as a scuba diver, with varied levels of limitations depending on the student’s ability to perform program requirements and standards.

Scuba diving has shown numerous advantages as a social and physical rehabilitation of disabled individuals, allowing them to interact in a near weightless state, with many feeling that the normal obstacles and restrictions their disability gives them on land, disappears in water when given the right equipment and training.
It is common knowledge that participating in regular recreational activities, which involves physical exercise, is rewarded with better health, both physically and mentally. Scuba diving is also a social sport, and as such can have a tremendous positive effect on disabled divers and their ability to interact with non-disabled divers alike.
As a diving professional the work with disabled divers is also rewarding as the students share their excitement and joy of their experiences. For diving professionals and dive centers alike, offering DDI programs can both help them differentiate them self from their competitors, but also offer added value to their community and staff.

Owner of Oceans 5 and PADI Course Director Sander Buis would like to become in the future a DDI Instructor Trainer to integrate DDI and PADI instructor courses, so that instructors become more flexible and stepping out of the box when they are starting teaching.

The dives were at the beautiful Sharkpoint, West of Trawangan, and Simons Reef, North of Meno. It is always nice to have candidates who want to improve their education and knowledge, so they can teach in the future more course.

High lights of the Deep Instructor Specialty course were the White Tip Reef Shark at Simons and huge Cuttle fish at Sharkpoint. Diving around the Gili Island has a lot of advantages: It is never boring, there are beautiful untouched dive sites, like Deep Turbo, Simons and Takat Malang, there are turtles everywhere and around full moon there is a big chance to see the bumphead parrot fish.

During your MSDT you will visit most of these places. Oceans 5 dive resort is one of the only dive shop in the Gili Islands who dives these dive sites on regular bases.

For tomorrow there is scheduled a Drift dive instructor specialty course at Takat Malang!
