Some of the candidates are practicing their knowledge again. Oceans 5 has on this IDC more staff, as normal there will be 2 PADI Course Directors, Sander and Camille, but this time they had help. Allen flew all from Korea to staff. Allen is a PADI Master Instructor and wants to become next year a PADI Course Director. Riet was helping too, Riet did her PADI IDC Staff Instructors course last month with Oceans 5 and like to get more experience in scoring the candidates. She will be one of the major instructors for our divemaster internship programs.

So tomorrow the IE will start. No worries for our candidates. They are well prepared. The IE will be done over 2 days. So the 5th of March there will be a big party on Gili Air.

IDC Gili Islands Indonesia with Dive Resort Oceans 5 Gili Islands

The first day was all about dive theory exams. There are 5 topics:

1) Equipment
2) Skills and Environment
3) RDP
4) Physics
5) physiology

The passing rate is for each topic 75%. Except for the person who is doing the IDC staff; her passing rate should be 80% or higher.
Oceans 5 dive resort starts her IDC always with an evaluation of the Dive Theory Exams. The PADI Course Directors like to see how the knowledge of the IDC candidates is and they will have enough time to brush the knowledge that is leaking. Especially when the candidates did their PADI Divemaster Course a few years ago they forget most of the theory.

Certificate of Recognition for Excellence

Certificate of Recognition for Excellence

The year is just started and one of PADI Course Directors had received a Certificate of Recognition for Excellence. Gina did her PADI Divemaster Course at Gili Trawangan, but decided to come to Gili Air to follow her dream to become a PADI Dive Instructor. She enjoyed the island so much that she stayed 6 months on Gili Air. During these months she got a lot of experience as a divemaster and as an instructor. She found work on the island, and is now a dive instructor on a tropical paradise island.

At the moment Oceans 5 dive resort has started another PADI IDC and PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course. This time there is 1 IDC staff instructor candidate and 4 IDC candidates. The PADI Course Directors are conducting the IDCs in English, Dutch, French and German.

The new IDC class room will be finished in a few weeks. It will be a modern class room with all the newest technologies. It will have space for 10-15 candidates easily. The next goal will be another pool, especially made for IDCs. The current pool is a 25 meter especially designed for scuba diving, but Oceans 5 like to offer quality to their candidates. So the new pool will have no other distractions. It will be a 20 meter pool with 2 levels of depth.

If you want to do your IDC on the Gili Islands you cant deny that Oceans 5 has the best IDC facilities. And Oceans 5 dive resort likes to keep this, so every time Oceans 5 is listening to the candidates how Oceans 5 can improve.

Divemaster Course Gili Islands Indonesia

Divemaster Course Gili Islands Indonesia

After 2 months of hard work Martin became a PADI Divemaster.

Martin came back for the 3th time at Oceans 5 and did all his courses here, from PADI Open Water Diver till now PADI Divemaster. Martin loves to dive and is full of energy.

He has so much energy that he dives sometimes 4-5 times a day. He is Oceans 5 house reef specialist and can show you all the beautiful creatures, like Mandarin Fish, Nudis, Crabs, Snake Eels and more.

The final test of the Divemaster Course is the “unofficial” snorkel test. Divemaster trainees at Oceans 5 can choose if they want to do this, they don’t have to do it. The new Divemaster will be dressed up and have to drink an amount of mix of everything. The mix will be well prepared and its more for the fun than to get people drunk or totally wasted.

Martin enjoyed the evening! Oceans 5 enjoyed the evening. Martins dive mentor, Giny, did a great job. But also all the other Instructors of Oceans 5: Phil, Jmal, Janneke and Riet!

They made the job of the Course Director easier, because the Divemaster is not Martin final goal! He is joining the upcoming PADI Instructor Development Course at Oceans 5. The IDC Gili Islands starts the 15th of January with 2 days EFR Instructor Course!

strong>Bradycardia (Slow Heart Rate)

What is bradycardia?

Having bradycardia means that your heart beats very slowly. For most people, a heart rate of 60 to 100 beats a minute while at rest is considered normal. If your heart beats less than 60 times a minute, it is slower than normal.

A slow heart rate can be normal and healthy. Or it could be a sign of a problem with the hearts electrical system camera.

For some people, a slow heart rate does not cause any problems. It can be a sign of being very fit. Healthy young adults and athletes often have heart rates of less than 60 beats a minute.

In other people, bradycardia is a sign of a problem with the heartss electrical system. It means that the heart’s natural pacemaker is not working right or that the electrical pathways of the heart are disrupted. In severe forms of bradycardia, the heart beats so slowly that it does not pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. This can cause symptoms and can be life-threatening.

Men and women age 65 and older are most likely to develop a slow heart rate that needs treatment. As a person ages, the electrical system of the heart often does not function normally.

What causes bradycardia?

Bradycardia can be caused by:
* Changes in the heart that are the result of aging.
* Diseases that damage the heart’s electrical system. These include coronary artery disease, heart attack, and infections such as endocarditis and myocarditis.
* Conditions that can slow electrical impulses through the heart. Examples include having a low thyroid level (hypothyroidism) or an electrolyte imbalance, such as too much potassium in the blood.
* Some medicines for treating heart problems or high blood pressure, such as beta-blockers, antiarrhythmics, and digoxin.

What are the symptoms?

very slow heart rate may cause you to:
* Feel dizzy or lightheaded.
* Feel short of breath and find it harder to exercise.
* Feel tired.
* Have chest pain or a feeling that your heart is pounding or fluttering (palpitations).
* Feel confused or have trouble concentrating.
* Faint, if a slow heart rate causes a drop in blood pressure.

Some people don’t have symptoms, or their symptoms are so mild that they think they are just part of getting older.
